First, nonlinear dynamic equations of piezoelastic shells are derived from Hamilton's principle. Then the obtained equations are applied to the study of dynamic characteristics of closed piezoelastic cylindrical shells under hydrostatic pressure. The authors obtain a closed-form solution for undamped vibrations of simply supported cylindrical shells. Numerical examples are presented for a six-layer hybrid laminate with two piezoelastic layers. The results show that the fluid-structure coupling effect is significant for natural frequencies of submerged shells.
