Let \(\varphi: [-1,1]\to \mathbb{R}\) be a smooth function. The authors develop high-order quadrature rules for the singular integrals \[ \int^1_{-1} \varphi(x) (y-x)^{-1}dx,\quad \int^1_{-1} \varphi(x)\ln|y- x|dx \] and the hypersingular integral \[ \int^1_{-1} \varphi(x) (y-x)^{-2} dx \] with \(y\in (-1,1)\). This method is based on the Legendre polynomial expansion of \(\varphi\), a Gaussian quadrature for the scalar products of \(\varphi\) and \(P_j\), and the explicit knowledge of the above integrals for \(\varphi= P_j\), where \(P_j\) denotes the \(j\)th Legendre polynomial. This scheme can be used simultaneously for the efficient evaluation of linear combinations of the above integrals. Several numerical examples illustrate the performance of this method. The reviewer notes that this method is closely related with fast algorithms for the approximate solution of singular integral equation on an interval, see e.g. \textit{D. Berthold}, \textit{W. Hoppe} and \textit{B. Silbermann} [J. Comput. Appl. Math. 43, No. 1-2, 185-219 (1992; Zbl 0761.65102)], \textit{M. R. Capobianco}, \textit{G. Criscuolo} and \textit{P. Vainikko} [Periodic integral and pseudodifferential equations with numerical approximation. Springer/Berlin (2002; Zbl 0991.65125)].
