Multilevel projection algorithm for solving obstacle problems (Q5948803)

This paper deals with the computation of approximate solutions for a class of obstacle problems. The multilevel projection method developed by the author is based on the discretization of the problem in a continuous piecewise linear finite element space. The multilevel projection algorithm extends the multigrid method for linear equations to nonlinear obstacle problems. The convergence of the multilevel projection is also justified. The error estimates are obtained in both Euclidean and \(L^2\) norms. A numerical example shows that the error estimate is sharp and the multilevel projection algorithm is robust in practice.
