The authors prove that the bivariate Shepard interpolation operators preserve the monotonicity and the convexity of bivariate functions in neighbourhoods of certain points. This extends results for the univariate case obtained by \textit{S. G. Gal} and \textit{J. Szabados} [Partial shape preserving approximation by interpolation operators, in functions, series, operators, Proc. Alexits Memorial Int. Conf, Budapest (Academic Press, Budapest) (1999)].
