For \(p\) an odd prime, let \(\Lambda = \mathbb Z [\zeta_p] C_p\) be the group ring of the cyclic group of order \(p\) over the integers of the \(p\)-th cyclotomic field, and \(T(\Lambda)\) the Swan subgroup of the locally free class group \(Cl(\Lambda)\). It is shown that \(T(\Lambda) \simeq C_p^{((p-3)/2+s)}\), where \(s\) is the index of irregularity of \(p\), presupposing that \(p \nmid h_p^+\). NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe proof uses the description of \(T(\Lambda)\) as a quotient, arising from a Mayer-Vietoris sequence, which goes back to \textit{I. Reiner} and \textit{S. Ullom} [J. Algebra 31, 305-342 (1974; Zbl 0286.12009)] and \textit{S. Ullom} [Ill. J. Math. 20, 361-371 (1976; Zbl 0334.20005)]. Then \(T(\Lambda)\) is split by the idempotents of the powers of the Teichmüller character, yielding nontrivial summands (each isomorphic to \(C_p\)) exactly for odd indices and for even irregular indices.
