This paper is related to the following question: Given a \(G\)-map \(f: X\to X\) of a \(G\)-manifold \(X\), can \(f\) be deformed into a fixed point free \(G\)-map? \textit{E. Fadell} and \textit{P. Wong} [Pac. J. Math. 132, No.2, 277-281 (1988; Zbl 0612.58007)] gave an answer by presenting a sufficient condition based on classical Nielsen fixed-point theory. Since for each subgroup \(H\) of \(G\), the restriction \(f^H: X^H\to X^H\) of \(f\) on \(X^H=\{x\in X: G_x \subset H\}\) is also a selfmap. A codimension condition \(\dim X^H-\dim\{x\in X^H : H \neq G_x \}\geq 2\) is certainly needed so that the typical technique in the classical Nielsen fixed-point theory can be used to combine the fixed points in the sets above. This condition is very similar to the by-passing condition in relative Nielsen fixed point theory. The author weakens the condition of Fadell and Wong to \(\dim X^H-\dim\{x\in X^H : H \neq G_x, G_x\cap N_GH =H \}\geq 2\), where \(N_GH\) is the normalizer of \(H\) in \(G\). The author also gives the condition posed on the group so that his new codimension condition is satisfied. In the last section, the author gives an example showing that the codimension hypothesis is necessary in some sense.
