Let \(G=g(1,1)\) be the restricted Melikian algebra which is a 125 dimensional simple Lie algebra of toral rank 2 over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 5. The one dimensional subtori are determined up to conjugation. All maximal tori are two dimensional. For each of these, the number of roots of any possible type are found. These results are used to investigate \(G\).
