The authors present a general solution method for the problem of an elastic inclusion of arbitrary shape within one of two jointed dissimilar elastic half-planes (Eshelby's problem) by generalizing Ru's method, the latter being restricted to an inclusion within a homogeneous plane or half-plane respectively. The formulation includes complex potentials after Kolosov, conformal mapping of the exterior of the inclusion onto the exterior of the unit circle, and the construction of an auxiliary function. The derivation of the exact general solution is sketched. Several special cases with respect to the propertiers of the half-planes and inclusions are considered additionally.
