Axial and vector affine non-Abelian Toda integrable models associated to rank \(r\) affine Kac-Moody algebra \(\widetilde{\mathcal G}_r\) having one global \(\text{U}(1)\) symmetry are constructed and shown that \(T\)-selfdual models exist only for the following three affine Kac-Moody algebras \(B^{(1)}_r\), \(A^{(2)}_{2r}\) and \(D^{(2)}_{r+ 1}\). The outline of the paper is as follows: In Section 2, gauged WZNW construction of non-Abelian Toda models associated to \(\widehat{\mathcal G}_r\) is discussed and shown that WZNW action with \(\text{U}(1)\) symmetry \(S(B, A_0,\overline A_0)\) takes the form \[ \begin{multlined} S_{\text{WZNW}}(B)- {k\over 2\pi} \int \text{Tr}(\pm A_0 \overline\partial BB^{-1}+\overline A_0 B^{-1}\partial B\pm A_0B\overline A_0 B^{-1}+ A_0\overline A_0) d^2z-\\ {k\over 2\pi} \int d^2 z\text{Tr}(\widehat\varepsilon_+ B\widehat\varepsilon_- B^{-1}),\end{multlined} \] where \(\pm\) signs corresponds to axial/vector gaugings, respectively. Here, \({\mathcal G}= \bigoplus_i{\mathcal G}_i\), \(B\in \exp{\mathcal G}_0\) is the physical field, \(\varepsilon_\pm\) are the specified constant generators of grade \(\pm\) which are the reduction of the phase space of the invariant WZNW model. The partition function of the reduced \({\mathcal G}_0/{\mathcal G}^0_0= (\text{sl}(2)\otimes u(1)^{\text{rank }{\mathcal G}- 1})/u(1)\)-non-Abelian Toda models is defined by \[ Z_{\text{sing}}= \int DBDA_0 D\overline A_0 e^{- S(B, A_0,\overline A_0)}. \] Integrating out the auxiliary fields \(A_0\), \(\overline A_0\), the effective action \(S_{\text{eff}}(g^f_0)\) is derived and shown that effective action of the vector gauging is CPT-invariant, while axial gauging is not. The conformal limits of axial and vector models are \(T\)-dual to each other. After analyzing \(T\)-duality of the models considered in Section 2 (Section 3), the conformal no torsion (\(T\)-selfdual) theorem is generalized to the case of \(\text{U}(1)\) symmetric affine non-Abelian Toda integrable models in terms of algebraic data (\(\widehat{\mathcal G}_r\), the grading operator \(Q\), and the grading \(\varepsilon_\pm\)) in Section 4. Then for appropriately choosen \(Q\) and \(\varepsilon_\pm\), \(T\)-selfdual models are determined a stated above. In Section 5, the equations of motion for the non-Abelian Toda models are discussed as the zero curvature equations and their solutions for the T-selfdual models are described. In the concluding remarks, the authors state that classification of the affine non-Abelian Toda integrable models according to the number of the physical fields (the dimension of the string target space) and their symmetry group (the symmetries of the string background) is an interesting open problem.
