A proper subgroup \(H\) of a group \(G\) is said to be strongly embedded (in \(G\)) if \(H\) contains an involution, but, for every \(g\in G\setminus H\), the intersection of \(H\) and \(H^g\) does not contain an involution. An involution \(i\) of \(G\) is said to be finite if, for every \(g\in G\), the involutions \(i\) and \(i^g\) generate a finite subgroup. The author establishes some sufficient conditions for the nonexistence of an elementary Abelian subgroup of order 4 in a group and proves two analogs of a theorem of \textit{R. Brauer} and \textit{M. Suzuki} [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 45, 1757-1759 (1959; Zbl 0090.01901)] for infinite groups possessing a strongly embedded subgroup and a finite involution.
