A theorem of Winter says that a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of a solvable irreducible complex linear group \(G\) of degree \(n\) is normal in \(G\) whenever \(n\) is not divisible by a prime power \(f>1\) such that \(f\equiv -1,0,1\pmod p\). Isaacs asked the question whether this result holds for \(p\)-solvable groups. The authors provide a solution of this problem for some particular cases: Assume \(G\) is a \(\Pi\)-separable group satisfying one of the following conditions A and B. Then the \(S_\Pi\)-subgroup of \(G\) is Abelian and normal in \(G\). Condition A. (1) \(G\) has a faithful irreducible character \(\varphi\) whose degree \(n\) is not divisible by a power \(q^\alpha>1\) of a prime \(q\) with \(q^\alpha\equiv 0,1\pmod p\) for all \(p\in\Pi\); (2) \(G\) contains an Abelian \(S_{\pi(n)}\)-subgroup. Condition B. \(G\) has a faithful irreducible character \(\varphi\) of degree \(q^\alpha\) where \(q\) is a prime and \(q^\beta\not\equiv -1,0,1\pmod p\) for all \(0<\beta\leq\alpha\) and all \(p\in\Pi\).
