Compatible and almost compatible pseudo-Riemannian metrics (Q5951268)

In this paper the author presents a specific definition of compatibility of two pseudo-Riemannian metrics. This definition is mainly motivated by the theory of compatible Poisson structures. It also generalizes the notion of flat pencils of metrics, used in the theory of integrable systems of hydrodynamic type and in the theory of Frobenius manifolds. It is shown that compatible metrics (as introduced in the present paper) induce compatible Poisson structures of hydrodynamic type. Moreover, if the eigenvalues of a pair of metrics are distinct the author gives an explicit description of compatible and almost compatible metrics.
