Consider the plane vector field \((*)\) \(dx/dt = P(x,y)\), \(dy/dt = Q(x,y)\), where \(P\) and \(Q\) are polynomials of degree two. The authors construct special Dulac functions in order to estimate the number of limit cycles surrounding a focus. The idea is to construct a function \(\psi (x,y)\) in the form \(\psi (x,y) = \sum_{i=1}^n \psi_i (x)y^{n-i}\) such that \(\phi:= k\psi(x,y)\) div \((P,Q) + d\psi/dt\) depends only on \(x\).
