The paper presents the construction of a two-sided functional-discrete method for a boundary value problem for second-order ordinary differential equations of the form \[ u''(x)-q(x)u(x)=-f(x),\quad 0<x<1,\quad u(0)=u(1)=0, \] where the coefficient function \(q(x)\) has a singularity at zero of the form \(q(x)=c/x^2+q_0(x)(>0)\) and \(q_0\) is piecewise constant on [0, 1] with finite jump discontinuities. The author provides sufficient conditions for the convergence of the method at the rate of a geometric progression, then he uses MATHEMATICA to discuss an algorithmic implementation of the method and presents a numerical experiment.
