The main result in this paper states that if a continuous map \(f: M \to N\) between two closed \(n\)-manifolds induces isomorphisms in homology with integer coefficients modulo 2 and if the domain manifold \(M\) immerses in \({\mathbb R}^{n+k}\) for \(5 \leq n < 2k\), then the target manifold \(N\) also immerses in \({\mathbb R}^{n+k}\). The special case where \(f\) is a homotopy equivalence was proved earlier by \textit{H. H. Glover} and \textit{G. Mislin} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 43, 443-448 (1974; Zbl 0282.57019)] using localization techniques. The present authors use techniques of normal bordism theory in their proof of the more general theorem.
