Let \((\Omega,\Sigma,\mu)\) be a finite measure space and \(E\) a Köthe function space on \((\Omega,\Sigma,\mu)\). For a Banach space \(X\) denote by \(E(X)\) the space of all (equivalence classes of) \(X\)-valued measurable functions \(\Omega\to X\), endowed with the norm \(\|f\|_{E(X)}: =\|\;\|f(\cdot)\|_X\|_E\). The authors show as main results: If \((\Omega, \Sigma,\mu)\) has the Fatou property, and if \(E\) is order continuous then \(X\) contains asymptotically isomorphic copies of \(c_0\) if and only if \(E(X)\) does. In particular, if \(\leq p<\infty\) then \(X\) contains asymptotically isomorphic copies of \(c_0\) if and only if \(L^p(\mu,X)\) does. If \(E\) is a smooth Köthe function space then \(X\) contains assymptotically isomorphic copies of \(\ell^1\) if and only if \(E(X)\) does. In particular, if \(1<p <\infty\), then \(X\) contains assymptotically isomorphic copies of \(\ell^1\) if and only if \(L^p(\mu,X)\) does.
