Multiplication operators between Orlicz spaces (Q5952398)

The authors consider Orlicz spaces \(L^\varphi(\mu)\) over a \(\sigma\)-finite measure space \((X,S,\mu)\), for which the generating Young function \(\varphi(x)\) has both \(\Delta_2\)-and \(\nabla_2\)-properties. It is proved that the set of multiplication operators \(M_u\) induce a maximal Abelian subalgebra of the Banach algebra \(B(L^\varphi(\mu))\) of all bounded linear operators on the Orlicz space \(L^\varphi(\mu)\). The result is then applied to characterize the invertibility of multiplication operators on \(L^\varphi(\mu)\). The compact and the Fredholm multiplication operators are studied as well.
