Roughly speaking, a smooth configuration scheme \(X/S\) consists of smooth schemes \(X(a)\), \(a\) varying over a finite poset \(S\), together with closed embeddings \(f_{ba} :X(b) \to X(a)\) for \(b\leq a\). The author studies coherent sheaves on \(X/S\), i.e. coherent sheaves \(F_a\) on \(X(a)\), \(a\in S\) together with morphisms \(f^*_{ba}: F_a \to F_b\) satisfying compatibility conditions. It is shown that the category \(\text{coh}(X/S)\) has finite cohomological dimension. If each \(X(a)\) is a projective (smooth) variety, then every cohomological functor from the derived category \(D^b(\text{coh}(X/S)) \to \text{Vect}\) is representable. In particular, \(\text{coh}(X/S)\) has a Serre functor. The special case of hyperplane configuration schemes (where \(X(a)\) are intersections of hyperplanes in general position in a projective space) is studied in detail.
