A \(5\times 5\) square is divided into 25 smaller squares, each occupied by a light bulb and a button which when pressed reverses the state of the bulbs in that square and in the neighboring squares in the same row or column. Given an initial position with some of the bulbs ON and the others OFF, can you, by pressing some sequence of the buttons, reach the position with all the lights OFF? This problem was solved by \textit{M. Anderson} and \textit{T. Feil} [Math. Mag. 71, 300--303 (1998)]. Now Araújo solves the related problem where each button when pressed reverses the state of the bulbs in the row or column of the square.
