Let \(G\) be a simple compact Lie group, \(g \in G\). Denote by \(N_0(g)\) the connected component of the normalizer of \(g\) in \(G\) that includes the identity of \(G\). An element \(g\) is called regular if \(N_0(g)\) is an abelian subgroup of \(G\). A finite group \(H\) admits an imbedding into a compact Lie group \(G\) by regular elements if there is an imbedding \(\phi: H \rightarrow G\) such that \(\phi(g)\) is a regular element for each \(1 \not= g \in H\). The number \(p(G)\) is equal to the least prime \(p\) such that the cyclic group of order \(p\) is embedded into the Lie group \(G\) as a regular element. The number \(l(G)\) is the maximal exponent of the Lie algebra \(L(G)\) corresponding to the Lie group \(G\). The main result of this paper is the following Theorem 4. Let \(G\) be a simple connected compact Lie group. Then \(l(G) \leq p(G)\).
