A sufficient and necessary condition for the compactness of the set of bounded orbits for planar systems is considered. The main result is that the set of bounded orbits of the planar system is compact if and only if there is a connected isolating block \(B\) such that all critical points and closed orbits are contained in the region \(G\) enclosed by the external boundary of \(B\). In my opinion, the planar case is rather special and of limited interest. Moreover, in the proof of the necessary condition, the authors should explain why the isolating block whose existence is guaranteed by the general Conley index theory is connected.
