The paper deals with a vector boundary value problem for a second-order difference equation in the case of an infinite number of grid points. A method for reducing the problem to a finite number of grid points is proposed. The case when the difference equation degenerates into a first-order equation as a certain parameter tends to zero is analyzed separately. Asymptotic expansions are used in this case to solve auxiliary initial value problems for first-order difference equations.
