Let \(B(H)\) be the algebra of bounded linear operators on a separable Hilbert space \(H\). For a positive operator \(P\in B(H)\) and a contraction operator \(A\), the positivity condition NEWLINE\[NEWLINE A^{*}P^{2k}A-P^{2k}\geq 0\qquad \text{for }0<k\leq 1 \tag{1} NEWLINE\]NEWLINE has been considered by \textit{R. G. Douglas} [Acta Sci. Math. 30, 19-32 (1969; Zbl 0177.19204)] in the case \(k=1\). An operator \(A\) is said to be of class \(\mathcal{C}_{\rho}\) (\(\rho >1\)) if there exists a unitary \(U\) on a Hilbert space \(K\supset H\) such that \(T^{n}=\rho P_{H}U^{n}|_{H}\) for \(n=1,2,\cdots \), where \(P_{H}\) means the orthogonal projection of \(K\) onto \(H\).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe present paper discusses the upper bound of \(\|A^{*}P^{2k}A-P^{2k}\|\) if the positivity condition (1) is satisfied for a positive operator \(P\) and an operator \(A\) such that \(A\in \mathcal{C}_{\rho}\) or \(A^{m}\) is a contraction for some integer \(m>1\). Moreover as an application of this result, the paper discusses some properties of operators \(A\) and \(B\) satisfying \(AXB=X\) for a compact operator \(X\).
