The authors describe the general principles underlying the discrete methods for data analysis in recognition problems. An approach is suggested for constructing recognition procedures that make use of logical functions. Basic models are described and issues concerning the complexity of their implementation via the construction of irredundant coverings of Boolean and integer matrices are discussed.
