The author studies two-variate, lossless, rational matrices with the use of Gröbner bases. He formulates the lossless conditions and considers non-factorizability into rotation two-variate para-unitary matrices. The study addresses the needs of multidimensional filter banks design and shows important differences in comparison with the classical 1D case.
