Let \(X\) denote a Riemann surface of genus \(g\). Its automorphism group \(\Aut(X)\) acts e.g. on the first homology of \(X\). Choosing a canonical homology basis of \(H^1(X)\) yields a linear representation of \(\Aut (X)\) in \(\text{Sp} (2g,\mathbb{Z})\). \textit{O. Bolza}, Am. J. Math. 10, 47-70 (1887; JFM 19.0119.04] and \textit{B. Schindler} [Manuscr. Math. 78, No. 4, 369-380 (1993; Zbl 0801.14008)] used this to determine explicitly period matrices for some special series of hyperelliptic Riemann surfaces with many automorphisms. In the paper under review sufficient conditions for \(\Aut(X)\) to determine a period matrix for \(X\) are given.
