The one-to-one correspondence of spectral functions with certain symmetric functions on \(\mathbb{R}^n\) is considered and the conditions are studied under which a spectral function has a quadratic expansion around a point \(A\). It is proved that a spectral function has such a quadratic expansion if and only if its corresponding symmetric function has a quadratic expansion around the vector of eigenvalues. The use of the formula for the Hessian of the spectral function is discussed.
