Action potential and weak KAM solutions (Q5956936)

The author relates weak KAM solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation of a convex superlinear Lagrangian and the so-called action potential. In the case of a compact underlying manifold a characterization of the Peierls barrier and weak KAM solutions is given. In the non-compact case the author constructs weak KAM solutions similarly to Busemann functions in Riemannian geometry. Using these Busemann weak KAM solutions he compactifies the so-called Aubry set and describes the set of weak KAM solutions by means of this extended Aubry set.
