The purpose of this book is to show that the common framework provided by Swarm provides to the Swarm community the potential for overcoming implementation problems and the opportunity to search for building blocks. The book presents new tools for programming with Swarm using objective-C or Java, using its libraries and graphic routines, and learning the philosophy of the package. In particular: MALM, a multi-agent modelling language to ease the creation of the most common set of agent-based models; VSB or Visual Swarm Builder, which provides the researcher with a rich set of tools already coded and components necessary to develop and deploy high-performance simulations; and SWIEE (Swarm Web Interface for Experimental Economics), introducing several Java classes and routines to design the down-level simulation considering the Internet like a sort of open virtual laboratory. From the point of view of the applications a few implementations are presented. In finance: the spread of a financial crisis in a network of financial institutions, the simulation of fractal financial markets, the dynamic behaviour of a contestable market, and a simulation of a computerized book of a real stock market. In economics: the formation of a production partnership, a general equilibrium model in macroeconomics, and a job search on a labour market.
