The continuous solutions of the functional equation \(f[x+yf(x)]=f(x)f(y),\) originating from theories of geometric objects and continuous groups, have been determined for \(x,y\in \mathbb{R}\) by \textit{S. Gołąb} and \textit{A. Schinzel} [Publ. Math. 6, 113-125 (1959; Zbl 0083.35004)] and for \(x,y\in[0,\infty[\) or \(x,y\in\: ]0,\infty[\) by \textit{J. Aczél} and \textit{J. Schwaiger} [Österr. Akad. Wiss. Math.-Natur. Kl. Sitzungsber. II 208, 171-177 (1999)]. In the present paper the solutions, continuous at a point \(a>0\) with \(f(a)>0,\) are offered for \(x, y, x+yf(x)\in\: ]0,\infty[.\) Problems in meteorology and fluid mechanics, to which these results are solutions, are studied by \textit{P. Kahlig} and \textit{J. Matkowski} [A modified Gołąb-Schinzel equation on a restricted domain (with applications to meteorology and fluid mechanics). Österr. Akad. Wiss. Math.-Natur. Kl. Sitzungsber. II (to appear)].
