A submodule \(M\) of a right \(R\)-module \(N\) is called strongly pure (s-pure) if for every finite tuple \(x_1,x_2,\dots,x_n\) of elements of \(M\) there exists a map \(t\in\Hom(N,M)\) such that \(t(x_i)=x_i\) for \(1\leq i\leq n\). A monomorphism \(f\colon M\to N\) is called s-pure if \(f(M)\) is s-pure in \(N\). An \(R\)-module \(M\) is called locally pure-injective (l-pure-injective) if every pure monomorphism \(f\colon M\to N\) is s-pure. Properties and characterizations of s-pure submodules and l-pure-injective modules are studied. Sufficient conditions are found for an l-pure-injective module to be pure-injective. Duality properties for l-pure-injective modules are investigated and it is shown that the class of l-pure-injective modules is in a certain sense the dual of the class of strict Mittag-Leffler modules. Reformulations and new proofs of some important characterizations of pure-injective modules are given in an appendix.
