This paper studies connected Lie groups \(G\) with an Abelian group \(H\) of automorphisms acting ergodically. One of the main results shows that there is a compact subgroup \(C\) contained in the center of \(G\) so that \(G/C\) is a vector group. Moreover, if the \(H\)-action preserves either the Haar measure on \(G\) or a finite measure equivalent to it, the author shows that \(G\) is in fact compact. A number of other results are given including the following. For \(n,m,d \in \mathbb N\) with \(d\geq 1\), \(\mathbb R^n \times \mathbb T^m\) admits an ergodic \(\mathbb Z^d\)-action by automorphisms if and only if \(m\not=1\) and \(d\geq n-[n/2]+1\).
