The paper presents studies of truncation and aliasing errors occuring in the numerical simulation of turbulent flows using the large eddy simulation technique. The modified wavenumber method which is based on discrete Fourier transform is recalled, and its application is given to viscous Burgers equation in one dimension. It is also shown that the discretization of convective form of Navier-Stokes equations using high-order compact finite difference schemes yields the best compromize which is almost equivalent to dealiased pseudo-spectral computations. Finally, an application to three-dimensional decaying homogeneous and isotropic turbulence with comparison of different methods is presented.
