    The plane and helicoid are the only known examples of complete simply connected minimal surfaces \(M\) embedded in \(\mathbb{R}^3\). The author proves -- clearly and masterfully -- that if furthermore (i) \(M\) has Gaussian curvature bounded from below, and (ii) there is a plane whose intersection with \(M\) is transversal and connected, then \(M\) is a plane or a helicoid.
