This paper is devoted to the chaotic behaviour of perturbations of infinite-dimensional autonomous Hamiltonian systems modelling a compressed forced beam and sine-Gordon equation. First the authors consider a PDE of the type NEWLINE\[NEWLINEw_{tt}+w_{zzzz} +\gamma w_{zz}-K\left( \int^1_0 w^2_z(t,\xi)d \xi\right) w_{zz}=\varepsilon \bigl(P(t,w)-\delta w_t \bigr),\;\varepsilon\geq 0,\tag{1}NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \(w(t,z)\in\mathbb{R}\) is the transverse direction of the axis of the beam; \(w(t,0)=w(t,1) =w_{zz}(t,0)= w_{zz}(t,1)=0\), \(\gamma\) is an external load, \(k>0\) is a ratio indicating the extensional rigidity and \(\delta\) is the damping.
