The authors study the problem \(u_t - \text{div}(|\nabla u|^m \nabla u) + b(u)\nabla u = g(u)\) in a bounded time-space cylinder with smooth lateral boundary, prescribing initial data \(u_0\) and zero Dirichlet boundary data. The main assumptions are growth bounds of the form \(|g(u)|\leq C |u|^\alpha\) for all \(u\) with \(\alpha < m\) and similar bounds for \(g'\) and all components of \(b\). Then unique global weak solutions are found for initial data \(u_0 \in L^q\), where \(q_0 < q < 1\) and \(q_0\) depends on \(m\) and the space dimension. In addition, a bound of the form \(\|u(\cdot,t)\|_\infty \leq C t^-\lambda\) is shown to hold. If additionally the mean curvature of the boundary is nonnegative everywhere, then also an \(L^\infty\) bound for \(\nabla u\) is shown. The proofs use an approximation scheme with nondegenerate problems and suitable versions of Moser's iteration method.
