The paper is devoted to the entropy theory for actions of countable amenable groups. \textit{D. S. Ornstein} and \textit{B. Weiss} [J. Anal. Math. 48, 1-141 (1987; Zbl 0637.28015)] have obtained a number of results in this direction, including the extension of the Rokhlin lemma, the Shannon-McMillan theorem, the isomorphism theorem for Bernoulli actions of amenable groups, etc. This paper develops an alternative theory based purely on the orbital approach. The author extends and provides new proofs for many recent results, including uniform mixing for actions with completely positive entropy, Pinsker factors and the relative disjointness problem [\textit{E. Glasner, J.-P. Thouvenot}, and \textit{B. Weiss}, Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 20, No. 5, 1355-1370 (2000; Zbl 0965.37009)], Abramov-Rokhlin entropy addition formula [\textit{T. Ward} and \textit{Q. Zhang}, Monatsh. Math. 114, No. 3-4, 317-329 (1992; Zbl 0764.28014)], etc.
