The authors apply the bifurcation control for distributed-parameter systems to a parametrically excited cantilever beam. A piezoelectric actuator on the beam surface is used to produce the bending moment in the beam. The governing equation of the beam with actuator is derived and analyzed for an appropriate feedback bifurcational control. The modulation equations for the complex amplitude of approximate solution are obtained by the method of multiple scales. They characterize the bifurcation set describing the boundaries of stable and unstable regions. Bifurcation control is carried out resulting in the shift of bifurcation set and in the expansion of stable region. Finally, the authors describe an experiment to validate the theoretically proposed stabilization method for parametrically excited cantilever beams.
