The authors deal with multiple-degree-of-freedom systems which describe the nonlinear dynamics of ships and floating offshore platforms, taking into account the effect of general damping on the resulting normal mode. By using the invariant manifold concept, the modes are visualized in geometric fashion for many particular cases.
