The authors study a relationship between regular orbits and chaotic motion by using Lyapunov characteristic exponent as an indicator. The calculations for relatively short time are made for fast Lyapunov indicators (FLI). In the case of regular motion, the fast indicator allows to distinguish between resonant and nonresonant orbits. Using a simplectic mapping, the authors present graphically the temporal behaviour of FLI for many orbits. A relationship between FLI values and the order of periodic orbit is obtained. It is shown that the FLI values increase logarithmically for low orders of periodic orbits, and grow linearly for higher order.
