\textit{W. H. Ruckle} [Can. J. Math. 25, 973-978 (1973; Zbl 0267.46008)] used a modulus function to define certain FK spaces. Later on, \textit{I. J. Maddox} [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 100, 161-166 (1986; Zbl 0631.46010)] studied the sequence spaces \(w_0(f)\), \(w(f)\) and \(w_\infty(f)\), where \(f\) is a modulus. These spaces generalize the spaces \(w_0\), w, \(w_{\infty}\) of strongly summable sequences, which were earlier investigated by Ruckle. A modulus \(f\) is a function \(f:[0,\infty)\rightarrow [0,\infty)\) such that (i) \(f(x)=0\) if and only if \(x=0\); (ii) \(f(x+y)\leq f(x)+f(y)\) for all \(x\geq 0, y\geq 0\); (iii) \(f\) is increasing; (iv) \(f\) is continuous from the right at \(0\). In the paper under review, the following Banach space valued sequence spaces are defined by a modulus. Let \((X, \|\cdot\|)\) be a complex Banach space. Denote by \(s(X)\) the space of all \(X\)-valued sequences. For a modulus \(f\), the authors define \[ L(f,X)=\left\{x=(x_k)\in s(X): \;\sum_{k=1}^\infty f(\|x_k\|)<\infty\right\}, \] \[ w(f,X)=\left\{x=(x_k)\in s(X): \;{1\over n}\sum_{k=1}^n f(\|x_k-l\|)\to 0 \;(n\to\infty) \;{\text{for some}} \;l\in X\right\}, \] \[ w_0(f,X)=\left\{x=(x_k)\in s(X): \;{1\over n}\sum_{k=1}^n f(\|x_k\|)\to 0 \;(n\to\infty)\right\}, \] \[ w_\infty(f,X)=\left\{x=(x_k)\in s(X): \;\sup_n{1\over n}\sum_{k=1}^n f(\|x_k\|)<\infty.\right\} \] Some well-known spaces are obtained by specializing \(X\) and \(f\). For example, if \(X\) is the complex field, then the sequence spaces defined above become \(L(f), w(f), w_0(f)\) and \(w_\infty(f)\), respectively. The authors study the properties of the introduced spaces and generalize the results of Ruckle and Maddox. Besides other results, it is shown that \(L(f,X), w_0(f,X)\) and \(w(f,X)\) are generalized paranormed \(FK\) spaces. Moreover, if \(X\) is a Banach algebra with identity, then \(L(f,X)\) and \(w_0(f,X)\) have \(AK\).
