The paper deals with a model of a one-dimensional system of pointwise nuclei, of charge \(+1\) located at the points \(X_1 , X_2 , \dots X_N\) and \(N\) electrons with the density \(\rho(x)\), \(x\in {\mathbb R}\). The ground state of this model is defined as the sequence \(\{X_i^N\}\) and the function \(\rho^N\) which minimize the Thomas-Fermi-von Weizsäcker energy. The authors show that in the limit \(N\rightarrow +\infty\) the solutions \(X_i^N\) and \(\rho^N\) converge (in a certain sense) to the periodic functions on \(\mathbb R\).
