The authors are concerned with finite element approximations of linear elliptic partial differential equations on Riemann surfaces. They analyse in turn two kinds of triangulations, comparable and computable classes of element functions, error estimates corresponding respectively to both of them and carry out some numerical experiments in order to validate their method.
