Let \(k\) be a field of characteristic zero. A filtered \(k\)-algebra \(A=\bigcup_{n\geq 0}A_n\) with finite dimensional components \(A_n\) and with \(A_0=k\) is somewhat commutative if the associated graded \(k\)-algebra \(\text{gr }A=A_0\oplus\bigoplus_{n\geq 1}A_n/A_{n-1}\) is commutative. The holonomic number of \(A\) is the minimum of the Gelfand-Kirillov dimensions of all nonzero finitely generated \(A\)-modules. Suppose that \(R,T\) are somewhat commutative algebras with the same holonomic number and let \(\phi\colon R\to T\) be an algebra homomorphism. Then a \(T\)-module becomes an \(R\)-module \(^\phi M\). It is shown that if \(M\) is a holonomic \(T\) then \(^\phi M\) is a holonomic \(R\)-module of finite length. In particular if \(\phi\) is an endomorphism of the Weyl algebra \(A_n\) and \(M\) is a holonomic \(A_n\)-module, then \(^\phi M\) is a holonomic \(A_n\)-module of finite length. This solves a problem by Rentschler. It is necessary to mention that the Diximier problem about endomorphisms of \(A_n\) has a positive answer if and only if \(^\phi A_n\) is simple for every endomorphism \(\phi\) of \(A_n\).
