A vector \(z\) in a Banach space \({\mathcal B}\) is called hypercyclic for a bounded linear operator \(T: {\mathcal B}\to{\mathcal B}\) if \(\{T^nz\}_1^\infty\) is dense in \({\mathcal B}\) The main result of the paper is the following. Theorem 2.2. Let \({\mathcal B}\) be a separable banach space and let \(T: {\mathcal B}\to{\mathcal B}\) be a bounded linear operator that satisfies the following conditions: (a) There is a dense subset \(X\) of \({\mathcal B}\) and a right inverse \(S\) (possibly discontinuous) for \(T\) (\(TS=I\) on \(X\)) such that \(\| T^nx\|\to 0\) and \(\| S^nx\|\to 0\) for every \(x\in X\). (b) There is an infinite-dimensional Banach subspace \({\mathcal B}_0\subset {\mathcal B}\) such that \(\| T^nx\|\to 0\) for every \(x\in{\mathcal B}_0\). Then there is an infinite-dimensional Banach space \({\mathcal B}_1\) such that each \(z\in{\mathcal B}_1\setminus\{0\}\) is hypercyclic for \(T\). The result is applied to a composition operator \(\omega_*\varphi(x)= \varphi(\omega(x))\) where \(\omega(x)\) denotes an automorphism of the unit disk. As a consequence it is derived that a backward shift on \(\ell_p\) space has only a finite-dimensional space of hypercyclic elements.
