The combination of traditional one-step methods with traditional multistep methods for numerical integration of ordinary differential equations is very natural and has been used by many people the last years. The author investigates the potential for efficient implementation of two-step Runge-Kutta methods, in the sense of some implementation issues such as estimation of the local error, changing stepsize using Nordsieck techniques and construction of interpolants. The numerical experiments indicate that the constructed error estimates are very reliable in a fixed and variable stepsize environment.
