This paper deals with the numerical solution of a system of nonlinear two-point boundary value problems. For singularly perturbed problems the use of implicit Runge-Kutta methods is presented. The author is interested in developing a ``black box'' routine which does not require user intervention and which is straightforward to implement in a general purpose software package. His approach is based on symmetric Runge-Kutta formulae. An efficient implementation of these formulae, based on the use of deferred correction, is described.
