The author studies the stability of Lamb modes in a homogeneous wave-guide for arbitrary admissible values of Lamé's constants. The cases in which \(\omega^2\), where \(\omega\) is a frequency, is real or purely imaginary are considered, showing the significance of the signalling problem in a homogeneous wave-guide for seismology. Applying the Briggs casuality condition and discretizing the boundary value problem by using a Chebyshev collocation method, the author finds all solutions for the wavenumbers entering into the resulting algebraic eigenvalue problem. Numerical results are plotted into diagrams. Finally, it is shown that the signalling problem is physically meaningful only for stable wave-guides.
