Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be given complex Banach spaces and \(D\) be an open domain in \(\mathbb C^n\). The class \({\mathcal O}(D,{\mathcal L}(X,Y))\) denotes the set of operator-valued analytic maps from \(X\) to \(Y\); namely, if \(\alpha\in{\mathcal O}(D,{\mathcal L}(X,Y))\), then \(\alpha(z):X\to Y\) is a linear map between \(X\) and \(Y\). Given a subset \(U\) of \(D\), we can define the induced multiplication operator \(\alpha:{\mathcal O}(U,Y)\to{\mathcal O}(D,X)\) by \((\alpha f)(z)=\alpha(z)f(z)\). The paper under review shows, for analytic maps \(\alpha\in {\mathcal O}(D,{\mathcal L}(X,Y))\) that satisfy a finiteness condition, \(\dim( X/\alpha(z)Y)<\infty\) pointwise on \(D\), that the induced multiplication operator \(\alpha:{\mathcal O}(U, Y)\to{\mathcal O}(U,X)\) has closed range on each Stein open set \(U\subset D\). The method of proof that the authors use is to first consider some special cases (e.g., when \(X\) is finite-dimensional). The authors then prove a local version of the main result, which, when coupled with the proof of the finite-dimensional case, can then be used to give a proof of the main result. The authors further use their techniques to provide an application. Let \(T\in{\mathcal L}(X)^n\) with \(\dim(X/\sum_{i=1}^n T_iX)<\infty\), and define the generalized range of a commuting multi-operator \(T\) by R\(^\infty(T)=\bigcap_{k\geq 1}\sum_{| \sigma|=k} T^{\sigma} X\). The application of the main result in the paper is that the generalized range can be represented as a suitable spectral sequence.
