The second part of the two volume textbook in Analysis (the first volume is Zbl 1214.26002, ME 2011d.00669 ; for the first edition, cf. Zbl 1108.26001; Zbl 1108.26002). The book consists of the following chapters: Metric spaces, Continuous functions on metric spaces, Uniform convergence, Power series, Fourier series, Several variable differential calculus, Lebesgue measure, Lebesgue integration. The section of metric spaces deals with the classical topics of point-set topology, convergence, completeness and compactness. The properties of continuous functions on a metric space are studied in the next section. This background enables the author to introduce uniform convergence as a case of convergence in a metric space assuming the supremum metric. Series of functions are discussed in general, and in more details the power series in a separate chapter. A rigorous foundations for exponential, logarithm and trigonometric functions are given in this chapter, too. The chapter on Fourier series deals also with convolutions and includes the Fourier and Plancherel theorems. The final parts are devoted to analysis in several variables and Lebesgue integration. Like the first volume, also in this one stress is given to deep understanding and high level of mathematical correctness. Thanks to deep introductory parts in the first volume there are no logical gaps or references to intuition. The text is accompanied by exercises that deepen and extend the ideas from the text. For those willing to obtain also computational skills (e.g. students of technical subjects) an additional set of routine exercises will be necessary.
